Akron

Event Type(s): Education
Organization: The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration
Description: Wednesday, March 14, at 5:00 p.m. Leonie Hodkevitch completes her residency with an additional workshop open to the public hosted by The Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture (CATAC). This work session held at Balch Street Theatre, 220 S. Balch Street, Akron, open to Akron area alternative theatre companies and others, will feature the topic Intercultural Communication: A Map of Opportunities. This is a very participatory workshop, during which intercultural communication skills are trained. Cultural variety broadens our horizon and shapes our professional success. Alternatively, it can be at the core of conflicts and failures. In the unknown lies the opportunity: hope, curiosity, and sometimes fear. Participants will exercise approaching and building relationships with representatives from other cultures, based on our common characteristics, while respecting the cultural differences. Specifically designed role games like “The Door” and tools enable participants to become open and competent when facing other cultures.

Leonie Hodkevitch was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and raised in Vienna, Austria. She earned her Masters’ degrees in Social and Cultural Anthropology and Romance philology. Leonie’s fascination and commitment for cultures led to founding the platform Clearly Culture that pursues inclusion through innovative educational programs. Leonie is the director of the Cultural Management Postgraduate Certificate Course at the University of Vienna and member of the Jury of Experts for the European Union’s cultural funding. She teaches Cultural Entrepreneurship and Intercultural Competence for distinguished universities across Europe and the USA, municipalities, ministries, and organizations such as the IOM/UNO. Leonie is a published fiction author, her latest novel is: “Der Stadlbauer,” 2017.
